How is the procedure performed?
Blepharoplasty is an outpatient surgery (not requiring hospitalization), it can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation. Incisions are made at the level of natural lines or wrinkles of the eyelids achieving a better aesthetic result..
Recovery
The same day of surgery the patient returns home, with medications prescribed. The stitches will be removed within the fifth or seventh day at the discretion of the surgeon. Can return to normal activity five-seven days after surgery. After that period may resume physical activity gradually, always wearing sunscreen with SFP (sun protection factor) greater than 50.
Post-operative care
- Sleep with your head elevated for the first few days to minimize swelling
- Place ice packs in your eyes the first three days, this helps decrease edema
- Avoid activities like reading, watching television, using the computer or contact lenses for the first 4 days
- Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from wind and irritation from sunlight
- Reduce salt intake and alcohol
Outcome
The result of this surgery is to have a much fresher, rested, youthful and refined gaze. Based on to the recovery process, results can be noticed right after surgery. Nonetheless, you will look much better when some time has passed by and swollen tissues has deflated.
Frequent questions
- Pain: There is no pain after surgery, only a small discomfort that arises during the next two or three days which is handled properly with prescribed drugs.
- Swelling and bruises: They may vary depending on the each patient, usually bruises fade away in five days and inflammation in one to two weeks, some patients may take a little longer.
- Exercising: Wait two to four weeks for exercising
- Sunscreen: Use for six months after surgery
- Makeup: Can be worn after seven days
- End result: Generally, two months after surgery most swelling has shrunk and the patient can fully enjoy her new look.
