Breast Reduction Procedure
Frequently, patients seeking breast reduction surgery want to relief from physical symptoms caused by the excessive size or weight of their breasts. Breast reduction usually solves these problems and so it improves the shape and size of breasts. After surgery your breasts will be more symmetrical, will have better shape and clothing will fit better.

The surgery is always performed in an operating room of a licensed clinic, general anesthesia is used. The patient is asleep throughout the procedure. On average, it takes two to four hours depending on the complexity. Generally anchor-shaped incisions are standing around the areola, in a vertical line down from the areola and a horizontal line in the groove underneath the breast. Through these incisions excess skin, fat and breast tissue is removed, and the nipple and areola are reattached to their new position; in some cases it may be associated liposuction.
Recovery
The night of the surgical procedure the patient stays in the Clinic under medical observation, and is discharged the following day with a special bra. After surgery, there may be a decrease in nipple sensation which will return overtime.
Post-operative cares
- Pain: There is a bearable pain that can be easily managed with prescribed drugs. It will go away eventually.
- Swelling and bruising: During the first post-surgery days your breasts may feel somewhat inflamed, you may have either small or big bruises depending on your skin features, which is normal due to tissue manipulation. Within the first weeks most swelling has subsided.
- Returning to activities: After 10 days, patients can gradually resume normal activities.
- Skin care: Avoid direct sun exposure during the first month. It´s recommended to wear sunscreen.
